Groups and charging
Charging within CSL SIM Insight is determined by the Group a SIM is assigned to — not by its individual activity state.
Understanding how groups control charging is essential when managing SIMs at scale.
Live Groups
SIMs assigned to a Live Group are chargeable.
All SIMs in a Live group contribute to the group’s bundle allowance, regardless of whether they are currently active or temporarily deactivated.
This model:
- Supports shared bundle charging
- Ensures predictable billing
- Prevents unintended charging gaps
Pending Groups
Pending Groups are typically non-chargeable.
They are used for SIMs that have not yet been deployed and often include a limited test allowance to support commissioning or factory testing without immediately triggering full live charges.
Suspended Groups
Suspended Groups are commonly used when SIMs are temporarily out of service, such as during redeployment or extended inactivity.
SIMs placed into a Suspended group:
- Are typically non-chargeable
- Do not consume bundle allowance
Movement Restrictions
Not all group movements are always permitted.
Some transitions may be restricted due to:
- Contractual conditions
- Minimum term requirements
- Movement limitations
Where restrictions apply, the platform enforces them automatically to prevent unsupported changes.
Using groups consistently keeps charging behaviour clear and predictable, while reducing the need for manual SIM-by-SIM intervention.
